Jump ball

The jump ball is a variant of basketball, to get the ball in the game. In the NBA, he is still in the game for use in most other leagues it is performed only at the beginning of the game. Previously he was also performed at the beginning of each period and at a draw fight for the ball. A fight for the ball is then drawn when two or more players of opposing teams have picked up the ball, and this can not be played without too much physical effort. Since 2004, comes in many leagues (not in the NBA ) in these two " jump ball situations," the so-called " throw- arrow" on the "rule of alternating possession " for the application, the two teams alternately granting the possession in such situations. In the early years of basketball, there was even jump ball after every basket. As this represented a large advantage for a team with an extra-large players, this was abolished in favor of the throw at baseline.

In performing the jump ball are two opposing players (usually the center ) in the middle of the center line, each in his own half of the field, shoulder to shoulder. The remaining players from both teams are spread outside the center circle and allowed to move around freely. The ball is thrown vertically into the referee between the two players in the air, whereupon this jump as high as possible in order to tap the ball toward a teammate who can then catch this and bring under his control. After correct execution of the jump ball, the game clock is started. Each of the two knight may touch the ball twice, then he must have touched a non Springer or the ground before one of the two knight may pick up the ball itself.
