Junction is the capital and the county seat ( county seat ) of the Kimble County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located on U.S. Highway 83, 160 km southeast of San Angelo in the mid- southwestern Texas and has a total area of 5.9 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The town was founded in the spring of 1876, due to the formation of the county in January of the same year. It was named after its location at the confluence of the two rivers North Llano River and South Llano River.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 2,618 people in 1,028 households and 699 families. The population density was 441.4 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 86.13 % White, 0.04 % African American, 0.38 % Native American, 0.69 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 11.12% from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.64% were of mixed descent, and 28.99 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,028 households, 35.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 52.3 % were married couples living together. 12.1% were single mothers and 32.0% were non-families. 29.6 % of all households were single-person households, and 16.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size amounted to 3.11.

28.2% of the population were under 18 years old, 7.3 % from 18 to 24, 24.4% 25-44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 18.1 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 85.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 82.4 males.

The median income for a household was $ 25,833, and the median income for a family $ 30,865. Males have a median income of $ 24,096 versus $ 18,750 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,971. 21.7 % of the population and 16.4 % of families are below the poverty line. Of which 30.9 % have children under the age of 18 and 16.8 % of those 65 or older.
