June Squibb

June Squibb ( born November 6, 1929 in Vandalia, Illinois as June Louise Squibb ) is an American actress with character roles in theater, film and television. She was known primarily for her roles in movies such as Alice, The Age of Innocence, About Schmidt or Nebraska.

Life and career

June Squibb was born in 1929 in Vandalia, Illinois, where she also grew up. Her mother played piano for silent films of the 1920s. After high school she went to Cleveland, Ohio and joined a dance theater group. From Cleveland, she went from doing theater to New York on Broadway. In the stage play Gypsy where Ethel Merman played the lead role, she gave her debut at the theater.

Her film debut as an actress was June at the age of 51 years in Woody Allen's romantic comedy Alice in 1990 alongside actors like Joe Mantegna, Mia Farrow and William Hurt. After that, she played numerous character roles in film and television. In the cinema she was seen in 1992 in Martin Brest's Scent of a Woman, a year later in Martin Scorsese's The Age of Innocence. In 1998, she occupied Martin Brest again in his drama about the death in Meet Joe Black. In 2002, she hired the director Alexander Payne for his cinema production About Schmidt on the side of Jack Nicholson, Kathy Bates, Hope Davis and Dermot Mulroney. In the same year she starred in Todd Haynes drama Far From Heaven. In 2004, she embodied in Donald Petrie's comedy Welcome to Mooseport the role of Irma, 2011 in Anne Renton The Perfect Family comedy the character of Mrs. Punch. For her portrayal of Kate Grant in Alexander Payne drama Nebraska in 2014, she was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for an Oscar.

Her television credits include 1995-2013 appearances in the hit television series: Law & Order, ER - The ER, Judging Amy, House MD, Two and a Half Men, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Ghost Whisperer - the! hereafter, Cold Case and The Millers. More complex television roles, she starred in the TV series Young and the Restless where she portrayed the character in 23 episodes of the Pearl 2008 to 2009.

June Squibb's film career spans since 1990 more than 40 movies and television series. She married twice and has a son.
