The Juneau Icefield is a 3900 km ² large glacier area north of Juneau, the capital of Alaska on the Inside Passage. The ice cap extends to the east of the Boundary Ranges, in the Canadian province of British Columbia and north to Skagway and on the border with the Yukon Territory. The southern end is the Taku Inlet, which opens at Point Arden in the Stephens Passage.

The Icefield is the accumulation area of about 140 glaciers, including the Mendenhall and Taku Glacier, the ice is up to 1370 m thick. His greatest extent reached the glacier area around 1700. During the Taku Glacier is the only major that still grows today, such as the Mendenhall has withdrawn 1946-2005 to 580 m.
