The Court of Grothe has been inherited as a proud family from generation to generation. However, Father Christian Grothe getting too old for it to manage the farm alone. Son Helmut, who wanted to build with his bride Ursula Bentheim a future in Canada, is not amused, to take over the farm.

But then he decides, but to follow in the footsteps of his father. The decision is especially hard Ursula, who now has to make their own career plans. The neighbors in the village have also their own ideas about the "selfish young people."
