Junggeun Oh

Junggeun Oh ( born September 27, 1970 in Seoul / South Korea) is a South Korean painter. He lives and works in Berlin.

Biography

Oh Junggeun studied Fine Arts at Seoul National University. Already during his studies he worked as a teacher at the Sun -Hwa University of Arts in Seoul and as a lecturer in Fine Art at Wonkwang University in Iksan. In 2004 he moved to Berlin, where he has since lived with his family and works.

Work

Junggeun Oh began his quaint practice with the creation of photorealistic paintings and elaborate woodcuts. In his early works he continued to work intensively with the Korean War apart, where his father served on the South Korean side as a soldier.

Spaces

Since then, oh lives in Berlin, he developed his series " gaps " in which he, as minimalized and abstract shapes brings the structures that line the outer lines of known buildings in the city (eg, Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Potsdamer Platz) in the sky on the screen. Here, it carries up to 12 color classes. His small-format Fotoübermalungen in a sense the starting point of the more abstract medium and large-format oil paintings dar.
