Junie Cobb

Junius C. " Junie " Cobb (* 1896 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, † 1970) was an American jazz musician (clarinet, tenor saxophone, banjo, piano, violin, tuba and drums) and bandleader.

Life and work

Junie Cobb played as a teenager at Johnny Dunn; After moving to Chicago, he headed 1920/21 own ensemble, which occurred in the club Alvadere. In the 1920s he worked with King Oliver ( 1924-27 ) as a banjo player and Jimmie Noone ( 1928-29 ), with whom he recorded for Vocalion and Victor. The early 1930s, he played for six months in Paris, then returned to Chicago and headed own formations. In 1946, he acted as pianist Annabelle Calhoun and performed as a solo pianist. In 1955 he retired from the music scene back, but still played with Red Saunders in 1961 and Jasper Taylor in 1962. Cobb wrote the title "Once or Twice" ( 1929).

His brother Jimmy was trumpeter who was involved in some of Junie Cobb's recordings.
