Junior Chamber International

Shine Thattuparambil Bhaskaran (President)

The Junior Chamber International (JCI ) is a worldwide organization, in which 200,000 members have joined together in 5000 independent local organizations and more than 100 countries and territories. They have set themselves the goal of giving people between 18 and 40 development opportunities in old age, so that they are able to effect positive change in society. The members are also known as Jaycees.

Philosophy

The organization believes that positive social developments can be achieved only to a limited extent by government action. Rather, changes by responsible citizens are set in motion. The members should be placed organizationally and personally in the position to bring about such positive change through local, national and international initiatives. One feature of this idea is the One Year To Lead - principle that relevant management functions are subject to the principle of rotation in the organization, so that may be granted as many members the possibility of management experience.

The members see themselves as global citizens, all of which have both rights and responsibilities and share certain goals. Through civic engagement and social Verwantwortungsbewußtsein these common goals to be achieved and the citizens of the world benefit.

The individual actions are local, but are carried out in the minds of its international context and its global impact.

History

The first local organization was founded in 1915 initially as a Young Men's Progressive Civic Association ( YMPCA ) by Henry Giessenbier in St. Louis, Missouri.
