Juniperus standleyi

Juniperus standleyi is a plant belonging to the family of the cypress family ( Cupressaceae ). It is native to southern Mexico and Guatemala.

Description

Juniperus standleyi grows as evergreen, low- lying or upright shrub or tree that can reach heights of growth of up to 20 meters. The branches go straight or ascending from the trunk. The numerous short branches are densely arranged on the branches and have a square cross-section. The reddish -brown bark is dark brown with age, rough and forms scales from.

The light green to blue- green, curved leaves are oval to rhomboid shaped with a length of 1.5 to 1.7 millimeters and a width of 0.7 to 1.1 millimeters and are decussate on the branches. Distribution and location

The natural range of Juniperus standleyi includes the mountainous regions of Guatemala and Chiapas, one located in the southern Mexico state.

Juniperus standleyi thrives at altitudes 3100-4060 meters. Where it grows mainly on soils that form on limestone. There are colonized mainly rocky slopes, the edges of mesas and scree.
