Juniperus taxifolia

Juniperus taxifolia is a species of the family of the cypress family ( Cupressaceae ). It is native to two groups of islands belonging to Japan.

Description

Juniperus taxifolia grows (rarely to 13) achieved meters as evergreen shrub or small tree with plant height 1-3. The branches go straight or ascending from the tribe. The ascending branches have a dull brown, hairless bark.

The pfriemlichen, needle-like leaves are at a length from 0.7 to 1.4 inches and a width of 1 to 1.5 millimeters in threes. The upper end is blunt. The needle top has a green toothed midrib and two white Stomatabänder while she is serrated light green and weak on the needle base.

Distribution and location

The natural range of Juniperus taxifolia is located in Japan. There, the species occurs on the Ogasawara Islands and the Ryukyu Islands. In Honshu it is wild.

Juniperus taxifolia grows from nearly sea level to altitudes of 300 meters. The species grows from the coast to inland in sunny locations on gravelly and stony soils.

Use

The species is locally planted as a windbreak. Furthermore, it is used as ornamental tree.

Threats and conservation

Juniperus taxifolia is listed in the IUCN Red List as not at risk. Because of insufficient data, an evaluation is deemed necessary. The stock is not considered to be stable.
