Junkers Ju 85

The Junkers Ju 85 project is the design of a two - engined bomber Quick based on the Junkers Ju 88

Development

As the part of the Reich Air Ministry in 1937 for the Ju 88, a defensive armament was allowed back, but could not be fulfilled due to the central tail unit of this type, it was decided at Junkers in Dessau to the parallel design of the Ju 85, which is about the Ju 88 90 % parts commonality distinguished. The main difference between these two types was the double tail of the Ju 85

Ju 85 A

As a starting pattern for this variant, the Ju 88 was V3. Without further changes to the double tail unit was integrated and a 7.92 mm MG mounted as B status. The Ju 85 A was not pursued after the Attrappenbau because the defensive armament appeared to be low.

Ju 85 B

The Ju 85 A was further modified and equipped similar to the Ju 188 with a vollverglastem fight head. In this battle head 4 MG now been installed 7.92mm. After Attrappenbau 1939, the type was abandoned because of the low drag of the central vertical stabilizer of the Ju 88 once again preferred

As motorization two Jumo 211 A / B were provided.
