Junkers Ju 89

The Junkers Ju 89 was a strategic bomber developed in Germany the Junkers aircraft and engine plants. It first flew in April 1937. After a change of strategy in the Reich Aviation Ministry but only two prototypes were built.

Development

The Junkers Ju 89, it was a four-engined low wing plane plate shell design with retractable undercarriage and an initial five- man crew. The engine in the course of the planned upgrade was designed for a strategic bomber. The drive was carried out by four Daimler -Benz DB 600 C 12-cylinder V- engines. The first flight of the Ju 89 V1 ( works number 4911, registration D - AFIT ) was carried out on 11 April 1937. The Ju 89 was, as the Dornier Do 19, developed on the request for a Uralbomber out. This requirement has been dropped in favor of developing the 177 1937 Heinkel He.

Only the two prototypes C1 and C2 were prepared. These were further used for research purposes and presented in June 1938 two world altitude records. The third prototype was modified and used as the basis for the Junkers Ju 90.
