Juozas Olekas

Juozas Olekas (* October 30, 1955 in Bolšoj uncomfortable ( Krasnoyarsk ) ) is Lithuanian politician and physician (micro surgeon ).

Life

After completing his medical studies ( 1974-1980 ) in Kaunas and Vilnius, Juozas Olekas was until 1988 a senior physician at the University Hospital in Vilnius. From 1982 to 1989 he was also a research assistant at the Laboratory of Microsurgery, Vilnius University (VU) and received his doctorate there in 1987. Subsequently he was, if it allowed him his political activism, worked in various positions at the Vilnius University Hospital.

Since 1996 Olekas is a member of the Lithuanian Parliament. In the years 1990 to 1992 and again from 2003 to 2004 he was Minister of Health of Lithuania. In the cabinet of Gediminas Kirkilas he took over in the years 2006 to 2008, the secretary of defense of the country. After the elections in 2012, he took office again in December 2012 in the new government under Algirdas Butkevičius.
