Juraj Jakubisko

Juraj Jakubisko ( born April 30, 1938 in Kojšov, Czechoslovakia, now Slovakia) is a Slovak film director, screenwriter and cinematographer.

He studied photography at a middle school in Bratislava ( 1953-57 ) and then directing at FAMU in Prague. He made his debut with the feature film Kristove roky in 1967 after he had already made ​​several short films. In the 1970s, he was unable to due to censorship in Czechoslovakia only rotate documentaries after his films Zbehovia a pútnici, Vtáčkovia, siroty a blázni ( Birds, Orphans, fools ) and Dovidenia v Pekle, priatelia! had been banned. It was not until the late 1970s, he shot the feature film POSTAV dom, zasaď current ( build ' a house, plant ' a tree ) before it reached its peak in the 1980s with the films Tisícročná včela and Perinbaba ( Frau Holle ).

Since 1993 Jakubisko lives in Prague. He is a member of the European Film Academy and since 2001 lecturer at FAMU.
