Jure Franko

Jure Franko ( born March 28, 1962 in Nova Gorica, Yugoslavia (now Slovenia) ) is a former Yugoslavian skier.

Biography

Franko won a silver medal in the slalom and bronze in the giant slalom at the junior European Championship 1980 in Madonna di Campiglio. The highlight of his career he achieved in the 1983/84 season when he drove in two World Cup races in the super -G and giant slalom once each on the third place.

The greatest success of his career, then he succeeded on 14 February 1984 at the Olympic Winter Games in Sarajevo, when he starting for Yugoslavia in the giant slalom won the silver medal. After the first passage Franko had stood in fourth place. With the fastest time in the second round he edged ahead on rank 2. This was the first medal for Yugoslavia in the history of the Winter Games. Franco finished his most successful season in 5th place in the Giant Slalom World Cup.

In the following season he was also placed in the top ten seven times in World Cup race. Foremost ranks he no longer reached. After the 1984/85 season, he finished his career as a competitive athlete.
