Jürgen Roters
Jürgen Roters ( born January 15, 1949 in Coesfeld ) is a German lawyer, civil servant, sports official and, since October 21, 2009 Mayor of Cologne. He is since 1967 member of the SPD, is married and has three children.
Education and work
After graduation in 1968 at the high school he studied Coesfeld 1968-1974 jurisprudence and put 1978, the second state law examination. He then worked in the service of the State of North Rhine -Westphalia to the Münster District Administration, the Ministry of Culture and from 1982 to 1988 as a lecturer and head of department at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration of the Land NRW. From 1988 to 1994 he was the personal assistant and head of the office of Interior Minister Herbert Schnoor.
In 1994 he became chief of police in Cologne and in 1999 as a successor of Franz -Josef Antwerpes government district president of Cologne. After the change of government, he was transferred to the injunction retirement in 2005. He then worked as a freelance writer and reviewer.
Sports
In the 1960s Roters German youth champion was in forest and cross-country running, over 3000 m and 1500 m. He took 1973 as a track and field athlete at the Universiade in Moscow, where he finished seventh over 1500 m, and at the international match Germany - USA exhibition in Munich. Since 1990, he has 25 marathons denied at home and abroad.
He was co-founder of the Cologne Marathon and 13 years first chairman of the Cologne Association for Marathon, he is since 2011 President. He is also president of the athletics teams of the German Sport University Cologne, former Chairman of the Board of the ASV Köln and chairman of the branch of the German Olympic Society of the Rhineland.
Policy
On 18 August 2008 Jürgen Roters was nominated by the Cologne party organizations of the SPD and the Greens to the common candidate for the mayoral elections in Cologne in 2009. On 30 August 2009, he was elected with over 50 % of the votes for mayor. On 21 October 2009, he assumed the office of his predecessor Fritz Schramma. His term ends regularly on October 20, 2015.
Jürgen Roters is a member of the board of the Association of Cities North Rhine-Westphalia and ordinary delegate of the German Association of Cities in the so-called World Council of the World Organization of United Cities and Local Goverments ( UCLG ), the World Association of municipalities. He is also a deputy member of the Executive Bureau, the Executive Board of the Association. The Presidium of the German Association of Cities has chosen in September 2013 Jürgen Roters the representative of the German cities in the World Council and the Executive Committee of the World Association " United Cities and Local Governments ( UCLG ) ".
5 March 2012 Jürgen Roters as Chairman of the Municipal Employers Association of North Rhine -Westphalia (KAV NW) was chosen for the election period to 2013, the largest local government employers in the Federal Republic of Germany.
In his capacity as Mayor of Cologne Roters is the participation and entrainment of the citizens and social groups in decision-making of particular concern. City conferences (eg the budget ) and " round tables " (eg Opera Quarters ) decision documents to make them more transparent.
