Jüri Arrak

Jüri arrack ( born October 24, 1936 in Tallinn) is an Estonian painter, graphic artist, metalsmith and animation artists.

Life

Jüri arrack closed in 1955, the Technical School of Mining from. From 1961 he studied art. In 1966 he completed his studies in metalworking and goldsmithing from the State Art Institute of the Estonian SSR in Tallinn.

Arrack was initially as an artist in a metalworking factory in Tallinn and in 1968/69 employed by the Estonian Film Studio Tallinnfilm. Since 1969 he is a freelance artist. In 1990, arrack the prestigious Kristjan Raud - Art Award, 1997, the Konrad- Mägi Medal. He lives with his wife in Tallinn.

Work

Arrack was a member of the Estonian Artists' grouping ANK '64. During his art studies, he devoted himself alongside metalwork painting and graphics. He has thereby developed its own catchy style. His paintings are narrative, but at the same time paradoxical and grotesque. Many of his characters wear masks or come from the mythology. Often arrack are in his pictures archetypes again. Christianity plays a major role in his art. Holy he undressed in parodies regularly raised their seriousness.

In addition to his almost surrealistic images arrack has many Estonian artists and intellectuals portrayed ( Leo Soonpää 1976, Yuri Lotman 1994, Peeter Tulviste 1995). From his monumental paintings are in the end position Theatre in Pärnu ( 1983) and the opera house in Tallinn Estonia (1998). The altar painting " Christ " of the Church of Halliste is also of Jüri arrack.
