Jurodidae

Sikhotealinia zhiltzovae is so far the only species of the beetle family of Jurodidae described. The family is one of the very original compared to the other sub- systems of the beetle group of Archostemata. So far, the holotype is the only proven copy is only known. He was discovered in the Sikhote - Alin mountains in Primorsky Krai in the Russian Far East and initially placed in a separate family Sikhotealiniidae. However Kirejtshuk recognized similarities with the fossil proven way Jurodes ignoramus and placed the species in the family Jurodidae in which it is the only extant species today. The larvae of the species are unknown.

Features

The beetles have a body length of 6.3 millimeters and a width of 2.65 millimeters. Your body is slightly flattened, the surface is covered with a fine, medium length fluff and unbeschuppt. The head is broader than long and narrows back to a neck. The head is also medium, but densely covered with fuzz. The slightly protruding compound eyes are almost round and hairless. Their diameter is about two- thirds of the height of the head. The distance of the sensor is three to three and a half times as much as the diameter of the scape. The sensors are irregular beaded ( moniliform ) and have eleven members, all of which are covered with fine fluff. The antennal segments enlarge only slightly to the sensor tip. Scapus is about half the time is longer than the Pedicellusm the third segment has the same length as the scape, the fourth of the same length as the pedicel. The fifth to tenth antennal segment is only half as long as the scape, the last link is bulbous and slightly longer than the scape. The face plate ( clypeus ) and the labrum are exposed and approximately rectangular with rounded front corners. The mandibles are strong and have a uniform cutting surface without teeth. The Maxillarpalpen are four members, the last segment is cylindrical. The Prementum, a sclerite on the labium is large and covers the maxillary and Labialanhängsel. The top of the head carries two flat, wide surveys behind the steering sensor input. The forehead ( frons ) carries a point centered eye ( ocellus ).

The pronotum ( front chest) is almost the same width, but as the head distinctly narrower than the elytra. On the sternum of the prothorax no extension is constructed. One can imagine due Notopleural and Sternopleuralnaht.

The elytra bear along fine, dense rows of dots. The elytra are widest in posterior third. The second, membranous pair of wings ( alae ) is well developed. The abdomen has six Ventrite (visible ventral sclerites ). The first Ventrit is fully developed and has a medial keel, the last bears parasagittal notches.

System

Sikhotealinia zhiltzovae combines features of Polyphaga, such as the Flügeladerung and the dot eye, the Adephaga, such as the six Ventrite on the abdomen and the Archostemata how the Trochantine visible at all hips ( coxae ) and the outer pleura on the prothorax. Significant features for the assignment to the subordination of Archostemata there are no, but the kind shares no Synapomorphieen with the other sub- systems, which is why it is provisionally classified as incertae sedis within the Archostemata.
