The Juruena [ ˌ ˌ χiu ʒuɾuɛna ] is a 1240 km long river in Brazil in the catchment area of the Amazon. He is a source of the Rio Tapajos which arises at the confluence with the Teles Pires.
River
The Juruena springs north of Pontes e Lucerda, just about 30 km from the source of Guaporé. In the upper reaches, there are many large waterfalls. It meanders north and is by many tributaries to a large current. Because of the numerous waterfalls and rapids it is not navigable. In the last 190 km upstream of the mouth it forms the border between the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Amazonas Since June 5, 2006 exists in the lower reaches, on the territory of both states, the National Park Juruena.
