History
During the off time from * NSYNC Timberlake released his solo debut, which should lead him away from his boy band image. During the recordings Timbaland, Clipse, Bubba Sparxxx and Janet Jackson were involved. In Never Again Brian McKnight is heard. Was influenced Timberlake by Michael Jackson, especially his album Off the Wall. The album reached number 1 in the UK, # 2 in the United States.
Criticism
On the website Allmusic.com the critics were 3 of 5 stars. He called Timberlake a gifted singer, the pieces were " on the surface pretty," the sound was working well. Robert Christgau wrote that Timberlake had his audience a big step ahead. He gave the note A-.
Awards
At the Grammy Awards in 2004 Timberlake was nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. He won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. Cry Me a River was awarded the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
