Justin Schultz

Justin Schultz ( born July 6, 1990 in Kelowna, British Columbia) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. Since January 2013, he plays for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League on the position of the defender.

Career

Schultz began his career with the Westside Warriors of the Canadian Junior Football League British Columbia Hockey League, where he spent two full seasons. During this time he was selected to a total of 43 position of the Anaheim Ducks during the NHL Entry Draft in 2008 in the second round. In the seasons 2007/ 08 and 2008/ 09 he was appointed Interior Conference defensive player of the year. From 2009 to 2012, the defensive player attended the University of Wisconsin -Madison and was active for their hockey team, the Wisconsin Badgers, in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association ( WCHA ). In the WCHA, he developed into one of the best defensive players in the league and was thus among other things, appointed in 2011 and 2012 both the best defensive players in the league, as also elected to the First All -Star team. In addition, he was in both years finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, which is awarded annually to the best university and college players.

Since he could not agree on a contract with his club Draft Anaheim Ducks within four years, he became a free in June 2012 to a so-called Unrestricted Agent; an unsigned player who fully with all teams in the National Hockey League ( NHL) can negotiate. On June 30, 2012, he finally signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

Due to the lockout before the start of the NHL season 2012/13 Justin Schultz played his first jobs as a professional player for Edmonton's farm team Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League ( AHL ). Schultz scored in 34 AHL games, 18 goals and 30 assists and took in January 2013 at the AHL All- Star Game in part. A little later he was transferred to the end of the NHL lockout in the squad the Edmonton Oilers. Although the defender barely graduated half of all AHL games, he was elected in April 2013 with the completion of the regular season, both in the AHL First All -Star team as well in the AHL All- Rookie Team. In addition, he was honored as the best defensive player in the league with the Eddie Shore Award. Justin Schultz was after 55 years, the first rookie to be honored with this trophy.

January 20, 2013 he graduated from the Vancouver Canucks to be first game in the National Hockey League. One match after he scored his first NHL goal in a game the Oilers against the San Jose Sharks.
