Jutra Award

The Prix Jutra is a Canadian Film Award, which is awarded annually since 1999 to the best movies in the French-speaking province of Quebec.

Organization

The Prix Jutra is the most important award for filmmakers in Quebec. The prize was named after the Canadian filmmaker Claude Jutra. The award is given annually in various categories in Montreal since 1999. The award statue was designed by Canadian sculptor Charles Daudelin.

Per category four films or filmmakers are nominated by the film industry in Québec, for example nominate members of the guild director ARRQ ( Association of réalisateurs et réalisatrices du Québec ), the films for Best Director. Members of the actors guild ACTRA ( Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) and UDA ( Union des artistes ) nominate candidates for the acting awards. Finally, all vote in all categories the winners. Participating films must have been at least a week shown in cinemas in the province of Quebec.

The last ceremony was held on 28 March 2010 and was moderated by Patrice L' Ecuyer. Since 2008, the actress Danielle Proulx is president of the Canadian television broadcast Film Awards Gala. Before her, the actor Michel Côté has held this position. In Europe, the Prix Jutra is regularly offset in time by the French television channel TV5 Monde Europe transmitted.
