Jutta Behrendt

Jutta Behrendt (* November 15, 1960 in Berlin as Jutta Hampe ) is a former rower from the GDR. Behrendt was 1983-1989 five times world champion in different boat classes, her greatest achievement was the Olympic gold medal in One 1988. Behrendt won nine DDR championship and numerous national medals in the course of their career.

Career

Behrendt won their first championship medal in 1979, when they won the double sculls with Kerstin Kirst bronze. In 1980 she was first DDR Champion in one, but missed the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980, as they held previously. In 1981, she was then for the first time a member of the East German National Team, along with Kirst she became vice world champion in the double sculls. In 1982, she GDR champion quadruple scull with Heidi Westphal, Cornelia lens, Jutta Ploch and control Elke Rost and reached again in the same occupation, the silver medal at the World Championships.

In 1983, she won for the second time in the GDR championships in one, at the World Championships in Duisburg, she also competed in this class of boat and was first world champion. Since the GDR 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles boycotted, they could not participate as the reigning world champion.

In 1985, she was DDR and world champion in first uncontrolled sculls with Kristina Mundt, Birgit Peter and Ramona Balthasar. The following year, she won the first championship medals in all three Skull - boat classes, but could not win a title. Nevertheless, they represented the GDR in One at the World Championships in Nottingham, where they repeated their success from 1983 and world champion was.

In 1987 she won with Jana Sorgers, Birgit Peter and Kerstin Pieloth both the GDR as well as at the World Championships in the quadruple sculls. In 1988, Behrendt participate for the first time in the Olympic Games in Seoul. After the victory in the GDR championships in this class of boat they started in one and was Olympic champion.

1989 Behrendt third was in the GDR championships in One. In doubles, she won four with Jana Thieme, Sybille Schmidt and Kathrin Boron, this team also launched at the World Championships in Bled. There they dominated the race and won the World Cup. 1990 Behrendt was the last time the GDR champion in one, then she ended her career.

From 1990 belonged Jutta Behrendt at the NOC of the GDR. After reunification it belonged until 1997 to the Kiel Canal in Germany. 1995 emigrated Jutta Behrendt from Norway to become head coach in rowing there.
