Juvigny (Haute-Savoie)

Juvigny is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Juvigny is located on 485 m above sea level. M., about 10 km east of the city of Geneva (air line). The village stretches along the edge of the plateau north of the Foron Valley, at the northwest foot of the mountain range of Les Voirons, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​2.71 km ² municipal area includes a section on the edge of Lake Geneva basin. The area is crossed from north-east to south-west from Foron (tributary of the Arve ) in a valley that was once originated as meltwater channel at the edge of the glacial Rhone Glacier. The flat valley floor is always around 300 m wide. North-west of this valley extends the community area on the plateau of Juvigny (up to 510 m above sea level. M. ). To the southeast, the communal land in the forests of Les Allongets and Les Montolliets extends at the foot of Les Voirons. Here is 535 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Juvigny.

To Juvigny include the hamlet settlements Les Curtines ( 498 m above sea level. M. ) and Paconinges (500 m above sea level. M. ). Neighboring municipalities of Saint- Cergues Juvigny are in the north, Cranves-Sales in the East, Ville- la-Grand in the West as well as the Swiss villages and Cara Jussy in the northwest.

History

The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Juvenius. First mentioned is the village in the 13th century.

Attractions

The village church of Juvigny received its present form in the 19th century, the bell tower was acquired by the predecessor.

Population

With 638 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Juvigny one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the early 1960s, a continuous increase in population was recorded.

Economy and infrastructure
