K-10S (missile)

The AS -2 Kipper ( NATO reporting name ) was a supersonic, aircraft -based, long-range anti-ship missile of Soviet production. The GRAU index of the Russian armed forces is K -10S.

Use

The development began in 1955, the commissioning in 1961. The missile was extremely large and was about the size of a small fighter jets. A single missile was carried under the fuselage of a Tu -16K -10 Badger C. The long range of the missile enables it to start it outside the reach of any air defense systems. He flies through a preprogrammed autopilot at an altitude of 10,000 feet until he at a distance of about 100 to 110 km descends from the target in a shallow 15 ° angle. At a distance of 60 to 70 kilometers to the target, the missile assumes a constant altitude 800-1000 meters and flies further on this until it has reached a distance of 10 to 16 km. At this time, the missile activates its active Endanflugradarsystem and goes into a descent until it hits its target close to or just below the water line. The AS -2 could alternatively be equipped with a conventional or a nuclear warhead. With withdrawal of the Tu -16K in 1994, the missile was removed from the armament.
