K League Classic

The K League Classic is the top division in the South Korean football.

History

The K League Classic was founded in 1983 as a K -League and is the oldest professional league of Asian football. The five founding members were Hallelujah, Daewoo, POSCO, Yukong and Kookmin Bank. Most teams include South Korean chaebols ( conglomerates ) and therefore carry their names. That's why they are also referred to as a franchise and not as associations. Recently, attempts have been made to improve the identification of fans with the clubs by adding the place name.
