Kaag en Braassem

Kaag en Braassem is a Dutch community, which on 1 January 2009 by the merger of two smaller communities, Jacobswoude ( with the districts Leimuiden, Rijnsaterwoude, Woubrugge, Hoogmade Bilderdam ) and Alkemade ( with the districts Roelofarendsveen, Kaag, Nieuwe Wetering, oud Ade, Oude Wetering, Rijpwetering ) has emerged.

The adjacent map the area of Alkemade is dark green and the colored light green of Jacobwoude.

The former Town Hall (Dutch gemeentehuis ) in the district of Roelofarendsveen Alkemade (see red dot in the map) is expanded and used as the town hall of the merged municipality.

The community is located within the Groene Hart ( for " Green Heart " ) associated with agriculture, nature and recreation a supplement to the neighboring cities of the Randstad (Amsterdam, Leiden, The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Haarlem ) forms. On the territory of the municipality of Kaag en Braassem much farming is operated in greenhouses. The adjacent lakes Kagerplassen and Braassemermeer are suitable of tourist importance and for water sports. There are 13 known old Dutch windmills, including one that dates back to 1632.

A new community, a new logo

The logo of the new, united community Kaag en Braassem has the shape of windmill blades. Kaag en Braassem is in fact a community with very many windmills - just another church in Holland and get more.

Each of the four wings is one of four important issues in the community: The Wave stands for water and water sports, because Kaag en Braassem wants to present himself as a recreation area. The wide stripes points to the nearby motorway A4 and the high-speed rail ( HSL), which thwart the community. The grid represents the numerous greenhouses and gardens. The green stripe stands for pasture and arable land that the community - viewed from the air - characterized.

As a symbolic colors purple and green were chosen. Green is the color of the landscape, agriculture and nature. Purple combines the blue of the abundant waters with the red of the urban areas.
