Kaala Patthar (Hindi: काला पत्थर; translated: Black Stone ) is a Hindi film directed by Yash Chopra 's 1979 It is based on the mining disaster in Dhanbad on 27 December 1975..


The former Marine officer Vijay was sentenced by a court martial and dishonorable discharge - the punishment for his cowardice as captain of a sinking ship in which 300 men were killed.

Now Vijay works in a mine and uses every opportunity to prove his courage to displace his past. Also working in the mine the criminal Mangal, who is hiding there from the police, and the engineer Ravi. You make friends with Vijay.

Vijay falls in love with the doctor, Dr. Sudha Sen, Mangal flirts with the bangle seller ChanNo and saves them from rapists and Ravi meets his old flame Anita who likes to write as a journalist, a story about the mine.

But soon Ravi have to worry about the life of Vijay and the other workers. The head of the mine Dhanraj Puri wants to use a tunnel is just about a huge water deposit. When the water falls, threatens a catastrophe, but Dhanraj is money more important than the lives of men. Therefore, Vijay, Ravi and Mangal protest, another friend, for justice.

It comes to the feared flooding. Mangal underground sacrifices his life so that Ravi and Vijay can save more buddy. Vijay so can finally overcome his trauma from the past.
