Kaarel Nurmsalu
Kaarel Nurmsalu ( born April 30, 1991 Tamsalu ) is an Estonian former Nordic combined and ski jumping today.
Career
Nurmsalu, who is trained by his father Toomas among other things, launched in 2007 at the Junior World Championships in Tarvisio first time in an international competition. In the sprint, he finished 62nd and 56th place the individual competition. The Estonian team, he won the 12th place. In the 2007 /08 season he made his first assigned to the B - Nordic Combined World Cup. His best finish was 62nd in the Sprint competition in the Finnish Vuokatti this season. At the Junior World Cup in Zakopane he achieved positions 58 and 47 in Sprint or in the individual competition. Like last year, the Estonian team was able to occupy the 12th place. At the end of the season he won the mass start competition his first Estonian Champion title. After he was also placed at the beginning of the 2008/09 season in the Continental Cup several times in the top 30 athletes, it was first used in the World Cup. At his Weltcupp debut, he finished 42nd in Klingenthal. Compared to previous years, he improved his results at the Junior World Championship significantly. In Štrbské Pleso he won the seats 19 and 26 in the individual competition on 5 and 10 kilometers. With the team he finished in eleventh place. The good results this season enabled him to start at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec. His best result was there the 35th place in the individual competition on the normal hill. The Estonian team, he was also placed on the ninth. His best result of the season was the 19th place in the Continental Cup at Rovaniemi.
At the beginning of the 2009/10 season Nurmsalu succeeded in the World Cup a moderate success. After the jump competition he was able to prove with his fellow countryman Aldo Leetoja in Kuusamo tenth. However, in the long run he dropped back to 38th place. Located in Ramsau am Dachstein with number 35 he succeeded his best result of the season. This season, he participated in the Junior World Championships. In Hinterzarten, he took the place 16 and 18 in the individual competition on 5 and 10 kilometers. With the team he reached the seventh place. In the Summer Grand Prix 2010 in Upper Wiesenthal he showed again a good jumping performance and could go as runner-up in cross country competition at the start. In the end he finished 25th. Like last year convinced Nurmsalu to kick off the 2010/11 season in Kuusamo. After a tenth place in the jump competition he won with 30 square his first World Cup point. This was the first World Cup point that an Estonian athlete could win since the 2005/ 06 season. In January 2011, he won with the best jumping performance sovereign the Continental Cup in Klingenthal. Two weeks later he competed in the Junior World Championships in domestic Otepaeae. When single competition over the 10 km distance, he won the jump competition and secured behind the German Johannes Rydzek and the Slovenes Marjan Jelenko the bronze medal. A day later, he also started the competition of ski jumpers. After a FIS Cup 2008 this was only his second international ski jumping competition. On the Tehvandi hill where he could be the year for the first time Estonian champion in ski jumping, he had only the Bulgarian Vladimir Sografski and the Austrian Stefan beaten give strength and won his second bronze medal at the Junior World Championship in his home country. In the second singles competition, the combiner, the local hero won the ski jumping for themselves. After the 2010/11 season he announced his move to the ski jumping. Even before the start of the 2011/12 season showed Nurmsalu good results. So he finished the Continental Cup in Klingenthal third place. In the Ski Flying World Championships 2012 in Vikersund he presented with 204.0 m to a new Estonian record. On September 8, 2012 he succeeded the third success in a row at the Estonian Championships. In the 2012/13 season, he reached for the first time in ski flying in Oberstdorf the second round in a World Cup competition. After the second passage, he finished 26th place and scored his first World Cup points. Other successes reach him at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme. He reached both the normal hill and the large hill the second round and took the 26th place respectively. His best finish he managed a 13th place at the Ski Flying Planica. At the end of the season, he finished with 40 points to 49.Platz overall.
In Ski Jumping at Holmenkolmen in Oslo in 2014 he reached the 6th place.
