Kaave ( German Kawa or Kaawe ) is the name of a village (Estonian küla ) in the Estonian rural municipality in the district Pajusi Jõgeva.

Description and History

Kaave has 41 inhabitants ( 2000). Near the village, the river flows Kaave ( Kaave Jõgi ).

Kaave was first mentioned in 1584. The place was especially known for its sugar factory, founded in 1782. She was reportedly the first of its kind in the Baltic States.

Good Kaave

The manor Kaave was separated in 1741 from the estate Rutikvere ( German Ruttigfer ). Owner was until 1821 the noble family Pistohlkors. It stood until the expropriation in the wake Estonian land reform of 1919 the property of the noble family of Samson Himmelstjerna.

The simple building of the estate was built in the late 18th and early 19th century in the style of early classicism. This single storey stone mansion was simple. An avenue led directly to the central axis. Of the buildings today only a few remnants remain.

Personalities

Kaave is the birthplace of German painter and lithographer of the Baltic Woldemar Friedrich Krüger ( 1807/1808-1893/1894 ). From Kaave also the publicist Ernst came Bark ( 1858-1924 ). He was from 1882 in Geneva, the Russian emigre journal " The Federalist Baltic " out the dedicated himself revolutionary ideas.
