Kačanik

Kaçanik ( Albanian: Kaçaniku, Serbian Качаник / Kačanik ) is a city in southeastern Kosovo and the associated greater community.

History

As founder of the city is Kodja Sinan Pasha in the 16th century. The town was until 1891 part of the Sanjak of Skopje, in the Vilayet of Kosovo.

First evidence for the existence of settlements were found in the 1980s, there were discovered during the construction of a shopping center on a grave with an inscription from the second century. The Fund is now located in the cultural center of the city.

Population

According to the last official census, living in the city of about 53,000 inhabitants. The city is located in the security sector of the U.S. Army. Albanians are the majority of the population, there is also a Serb minority.

Economy and infrastructure

Kaçanik located 50 km south-east of Pristina, the motorway connection from Pristina to Skopje goes Kaçanik. The town also has a railway station on the main north-south connection of Hekurudhat e Kosovës / Kosovske Železnice of Fushë Kosova to Thessaloniki (built in 1879), this makes Kaçanik an important economic space.

The community is known primarily for the construction industry. But there are also favorable conditions for the development of animal husbandry, bee-keeping, fruit growing, and crafts.
