Kachess Lake

The Kachess Lake is a lake in Kittitas County in the U.S. state of Washington. The lake is about 17 km long and 18.6 km ². The upper part of the lake is also known as Little Lake Kachess. The lake is mainly fed by Kachess River, a small river which rises in the Snoqualmie Alpine Wilderness. The Kachess River leaves the lake on the south by the Kachess Dam.

The Kachess Dam is a 35 m high earth dam, the dams on the natural Kachess Lake. The dam was built in 1910-1912 by the Bureau of Reclamation as part of the Yakima Project to irrigate the Yakima Valley on a glacial moraine. The pent-up Kachess Lake has a volume of 294 million m³. The name comes from a Kachess Indian language and means " full of fish " in contrast to Keechelus Lake, which is called " fischarm ". The lake is located in the Wenatchee National Forest. On the shores of Lake Kachess There is a campsite, the lake is a popular destination for water sports and fishing. Frequent Angel fish are sockeye salmon, cutthroat trout and rainbow trout.
