Kaczawa

The Kaczawa in Legnica.

The Kaczawa ( German: the Katzbach ) is a left tributary of the Oder in the Polish Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

Course

The Kaczawa rises in Kaczawskie Mountains on the Bleiberg at Kaczorów ( Ketschendorf ) and flows to the north, later northeastern cities Wojcieszów, Świerzawa, Złotoryja and Legnica and ends after 98 km at Prochowice ( Parchwitz ) in the Oder.

Its main tributaries are the Skora ( Skora ) on the left and the Furious Neisse ( Nysa Polish Szalona ) on the right side. The Katzbach has a raging overflow because their slope is 360 m, but is little water in the summer usually. It flows into the territory of the former government district Liegnitz the Prussian province ( Lower) Silesia.

History

On August 26, 1813 Prussian Field Marshal Blucher and the Prussian Major-General Gneisenau defeated with their Silesian army in the Battle of the Katzbach the Napoleonic forces under the leadership of Napoleon's Marshal McDonald.
