Kairaku-en

The Kairaku -en (Japanese偕 楽 园) in Mito, the capital of Ibaraki Prefecture, is grouped with the Kenroku -en and the Koraku -en to the three famous gardens in Japan ( Sanmeien ).

Information to the garden

Founded in the garden of Nariaki Tokugawa (1800-1860) in 1841. Since the founder of the garden was a lover of plum trees, the park has in comparison to the other famous gardens a very large plum grove. In the last days of the war the Second World War the park was almost completely destroyed, but rebuilt in 1958.
