Kakegawa, Shizuoka

Kakegawa (Japanese挂 川 市, -shi ) is a city in Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan.

Geography

Kakegawa is located southwest of Shizuoka and Hamamatsu east of the Pacific Ocean.

History

1113 built Imagawa Ujichika in Kakegawa a castle, which then went through various hands. In the Tokugawa period following daimyo received the castle 1601 Hisamatsu, 1623 Sakurai, 1639 Honda, 1644 Matsudaira, 1648 Fukushima, 1658 Ii, 1706 Sakurai, 1711 Ogasawara and finally 1746-1868 Ōta last with an income of 50,000 koku.

The city Kakegawa in 1954 with the incorporation of two villages (曽 我 村and东 山口 村) in the municipality of Kakegawa (挂 川 町, chō ~ ) was founded. With the incorporation of municipalities Daitō (大 东 町, -chō ) and Osuka (大 须 贺 町, -chō ) of the district Ogasa Kakegawa was re-established as a city, and called the district dissolved on 1 April 2005.

Kakegawa was a post station (宿 场 町Shukuba -machi ) of the Tōkaidō during the Edo period.

Economy and Transport

In Kakegawa is the main factory, master's workshop and the development center for the company Pianos Yamaha Corporation.
