Kalach-na-Donu

Kalatsch -on-Don (Russian Калач - на - Дону ) is a town in Volgograd region in Russia with 26,910 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Location

History

The village was founded in 1708 as a small Cossack village called Kalatschewski. The place name Kalatsch is synonymous with " loop flow " because the river bed of the Dons up to its stowage made ​​a sharp curve in this area in Russian. 1863 Kalatsch to build a route to Volgograd (then Tsaritsyn ) connected to the Russian railway network.
