The Kalamata International Airport (Greek Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Καλαμάτας ) ( IATA: KLX, ICAO: LGKL ) is the airport of the Greek city of Kalamata. It is used mainly during the summer months by some charter airlines. Once a week there is a scheduled flight to Thessaloniki, Greece's second largest city. As part of the privatization program of the Greek central government 's long-term future of the airport is uncertain.

Location

The airport is located between Kalamata and Messene on the road Pylos - Kalamata - Sparta. The airstrip is about 2.9 kilos Menter long (north / south orientation ).

History

The Kalamata airport is one of 15 international airports in Greece. It was opened in 1959 as a military airfield. In 1991 the base was extended by a civilian airport. A new terminal opened in 2009.

International flight connection

Since 2008, among other things, a direct flight by Air Berlin to Nuremberg. Here there is a transfer possibility to Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Vienna. Austrian Airlines also flies to Kalamata on Sundays.
