Kalbarri, Western Australia
Kalbarri is a coastal town in Western Australia, about 592 km north of Perth at the mouth of the Murchison River. The town lives mainly from tourism and immediately adjacent to the eponymous national park.
History
Kalbarri has applied since 1951 as permament colonized previously were simple fishermen's huts at the mouth of the Murchison River. The first 12 streets were named after the explorer George Grey and his team who suffered shipwreck in 1839 off the coast.
Tourist information
Kalbarri is very well developed for tourism. The main attraction is the adjacent National Park with the gorges of the Murchison River. The town is the starting point for seasonal whale watching, as well as find morning pelican feedings instead. Two kilometers south of the village is a private bird sanctuary.
