Kalfou

Region

Kalfou is a rural municipality in the department of Tahoua in Niger.

Geography

Kalfou located in the Sahel region and is an eastern suburb of the capital region of Tahoua. The other neighboring communities Kalfous are Barmou the northwest, Kao in the north, Tabalak in the northeast, Keita in the east, in the southeast Tamaské, Badaguichiri in the south and Bambeye in the southwest. The municipality is divided into 35 administrative villages, 55 traditional villages and eight hamlets. The main town of the rural community is Kalfou consisting of the administrative villages Kalfou Dabagui and Kalfou Rafi.

The Forêt de classée Minao is a 60 -acre protected nature woodland area in the municipality of Kalfou. The protected status was made in 1955.

History

Kalfou was founded in the 17th century. The rural community Kalfou went out in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from the Canton Kalfou, was released from the Barmou as an independent country community.

Population

At the 2001 census Kalfou had 75 446 inhabitants. For the year 2010 101.672 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure
