Kaliningrad State Technical University

The Kaliningrad State Technical University (Russian Калининградский государственный технический университет ) is the oldest institution in the field of higher education for the fishing industry in Russia.

History

Founded in 1913 as Department of Fisheries at the Moscow Agricultural Institute, was in 1946 the company moved to Kaliningrad and conversion in the Kaliningrad Technical Institute of Fish Industry and breeding. During his now 60 - year existence, from the Institute a university with a strong technical character, but also with natural, economic and social- scientific references developed. In 1994 it was renamed Kaliningrad State Technical University. There are now eight faculties, three via optional centers and five affiliated institutions - this also includes the German -speaking Europe Institute Klaus Mehnert.

Presence

Since its founding in 1913, about 35,000 specialists in Russia and 50 other countries were trained. At the University of world-renowned scientists have researched and taught. The KSTU is after the Immanuel Kant University, the second largest university in Kaliningrad. Today, learn more than 7,500 students in 42 disciplines to earn a bachelor's (4- year), a specialist -(5- year) or a Master's degree (2 years after bachelor ). Also, the acquisition of the doctoral degree and habilitation are available at the university. Postgraduate studies can be completed in 24 disciplines. Among the more than 560 teachers work about 30 from various Russian and international academies. 65 professors and 258 habilitated as associated professors.

Research priorities of the KSTU are: bioresources, agriculture and biotechnology, fisheries, ecology, energy, nanotechnology and laser technology.

Scientific cooperation maintains the University especially with the nearby Baltic countries, Poland, Germany, Denmark, Finland and Sweden. Currently studying more than 100 students from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

A library of 530,000 volumes, partly from the 19th century, and three reading rooms with 300 seats complete the offer for the students. On the Baltic Sea, the university has a summer home for the hosting of conferences and seminars.
