Kalk Post (KVB)

Kalk Post Underground Station is a station on lines 1 and 9 of the Cologne Stadtbahn in the center of Cologne-Kalk. The location of the Kalker main street subway station is called the Cologne public transport operators internally as KPO and is from the neighboring subway stations 700-800 meters away.

Kalk Post is the westernmost of the three underground stations the first construction phase of the Deutz- Kalker subway, which was put into operation on August 2, 1980. To the west the tunnel section under crossed in the course of Kalker main road, the Federal railroad track and continued to follow the Deutz- Kalker road before the route via a temporary ramp in the amount of Betzdorfer street immediately west of today's underground station Deutz college to the existing tram route joined.

The Deutz- Kalker Metro was the first tunnel section in Cologne, which was completely designed and built by the rail of the Land North Rhine -Westphalia. In addition to the design speed of 80 km / h curve radii of 300 meters in height and completely free branches, this also meant a platform length of 110 meters. This platform length has not been used before and after in Cologne and participates in the usual train length of about 60 meters significantly oversized. According to the interpretation of the high-floor light rail vehicles B escalators end 90 inches above the top of rail, the actual station platform level is achieved through four steps. The platform itself has the same height as the floor of the low-floor light rail vehicles used. With 14,400 passengers daily Kalk Post to a stop outside the city center without Umsteigefunktion is relatively heavily frequented. The station is at the top of the priority list for the barrier-free expansion, but the ranking of the metro stations in the district of lime is politically controversial. The district council decided to lime the installation of two elevators that will take place in 2015 on February 17, 2011. The cost is estimated at 2.1 million euros.

Like the neighboring stations, the walls are colored tiled with a white Absetzstreifen in which the signage is located. The characteristic color of lime Post is light blue, some vertical stripes are decorated in white and dark blue. Kalk Post Underground Station was the first in Cologne, which was designed as a civil defense shelter. The system provides protection in case of conflict, water and electricity for about 2400 people.
