Kalmyk State University

The Kalmyk State University ( Kalmyk Хальмг улсин ик сурһуль; Russian Калмыцкий государственный университет ) is the oldest and largest university in the Republic of Kalmykia and one of the largest universities in the South of Russia. It is located in Elista.

The University is currently divided (May, 2013) in 7 faculties and has a Kalmyk Institute of Philology and Oriental Studies. The university offers 22 degree programs, with the final state examination and specialist diploma in ( specialty), 20 studies with a Bachelor's and Master's degree programs and 18 of the middle vocational training.

The shape of the course is directly and remotely. 75 graduate students, 12 postdoctoral students in the College to Baschanta formed - currently be in full-time study form 1878 Bachelor, 1618 students of the specialty, 213 master's, 615 students according to the average vocational training program, 492. In distance learning form Bachelors 1183, 2048, students of the specialty, 31 aspirants, 312 students according to the average vocational training program, 258 - trained in college to Baschanta. A total of 8897 students are enrolled.

The University plays a key role in the system of training and further transformation of the professionals for different areas of life of the Republic of Kalmykia. It makes for a significant contribution to the integration of higher education and academic sciences, as well as the rebirth of the Kalmyk language and culture. The University has seven buildings in Elista, and about one in Baschanta ( college). 2000 was the KalmGU with the Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Kalmykia in connection with the 30th anniversary of the university, and in 2002 awarded the gold medal for the impeccable business reputation from the Russian- Swiss Business Club.

The idea to open a university in the Republic of Kalmykia, came up already in the 1920s, but was realized only after the restoration of the Kalmyk ASSR. Finally, it was opened in 1970. Today, the university offers 8 departments and 26 courses of study, here study 6800 students.

The university was formed in 1970 on the basis of the Kalmyk educational institution.

1975 was the first class to graduate

In 1991, the center of postgraduate training of specialists for the national economy and postgraduate were founded.

International Cooperation

Active, the University participates in international scientific projects and cooperation programs. So there are links with universities in Asia, Europe and America. KalmGU is the organizer and an active member of the International Association of State Universities of the Caspian countries, which unites 46 universities and research institutions in Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Iran. 2011-2012 studied at the University of 73 foreign students from Benin, Iraq, China, Congo, Mali, Chad, Kyrgyzstan. 28 - at government expense, 27 - at his own expense and 18 - as an apprentice. 2012-2013 study at the KalmGU 146 foreign students, trainees and graduate students from 18 countries: Benin, Congo, Mali, Ghana, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Germany, Lithuania and the United States.

Russian as a Foreign Language

The Kalmyk State University not only has many years of positive experience in Voruniversitätsausbildung of foreign students, but also a good potential for further development of such activities. In this context, the Department of Russian as a foreign language and humanities disciplines ( RKIOD ) was founded in 2012.

The Chair RKIOD offers the course of study Russian as a foreign language at three levels: Voruniversitätsstudium, direct studies, postgraduate studies. The following programs of the Department are available to students:

  • Program certified Russian as a Foreign Language I;
  • Semester program for advanced (for students of the Mongolian State University );
  • 10 - month program for advanced ( for students of the University of Inner Mongolia, China).

2012 is the program developed " business course of the Russian language for beginners and advanced ."

Currently, the faculty offers for Voruniversitäts and Aliens training on various forms:

  • Preliminary study institution for foreigners;
  • Russian as a foreign language;
  • One year of study in Russian ( for students of the University of Inner Mongolia, China);
  • One-year study visits for Master's and PhD students;
  • Training of foreigners for the naturalization test;
  • Summer school;
  • Business courses of Russian as a foreign language

The faculty has a good material base: a library, multimedia equipment, two computer labs, audio, TV and video equipment, teaching computer programs. The faculty is developing dynamically, continuously perfected the system of academic, extra-curricular and pedagogical work with students: a controlled trial of compliance plans, developing and changing educational work plans with regard to newly arrived applicants. 2012, a support system for the effective operation with foreign students has been introduced. All this contributes to the fact that foreign students adapt quickly to new conditions of life. This system helps in the formation of their linguistic, communicative and multicultural competencies.
