Kalpana Saroj

Kalpana Saroj (* 1961 in Repatkhedha, Maharashtra ) is an Indian entrepreneur. It belongs to the caste of the Dalit or "untouchable " to. She is the owner of Kamani Tubes Limited ( KTL). KTL is considered a leader in the production of non-ferrous metal tubes.

Life

Youth

Kalpana Saroj grew up as the eldest daughter of a police officer on in Repatkhedha. Although the father encouraged her education, however Kalpana Saroj was married to twelve with a ten year older man. She followed her husband to Mumbai, where she lived with him and his family for six months in a slum. She was abused by her first husband and his family. After the father had visited her, he took her from this family back home. There she completed her education. At 13, she tried unsuccessfully to follow her father into the police service, it was followed by other attempts to learn a traditional profession in order to make something of their lives. Finally, she learned dressmaking. Social exclusion in her home village, however, led to a suicide attempt. The attempt was unsuccessful because it was an aunt.

At 15, Kalpana Saroj sat through to her family that she was allowed to go back to Mumbai. She sat with this threat by failing to attempt suicide again. There she found first a worker who had to remove lint from textiles produced. She taught herself to use industrial sewing machines and thus improved their income equivalent to 15 cents a day to $ 5 a day.

Entrepreneur

When her sister died because she could not pay a hospital visit, Kalpana Saroj decided that she had to make money.

In 2006, Kalpana Saroj the present in a severe crisis, companies Kamani Tubes Limited and led the company out of crisis. To finance the acquisition, they had to take out a loan with a maturity of three years. She paid the loan within three months back, paid unpaid wages and carried off the company's debts.
