Kama Sywor Kamanda

Kama Sywor Kamanda ( born November 11, 1952 in Luebo in the Congo ) is a Congolese writer with Egyptian roots. He studied in Europe and Africa, journalism, political science and law. Today, he has lectured at universities in different countries and is the author of a cultural and political critiques.

As a poet and novelist, he has created many notable and world-renowned literary works. Since the publication of his first book " Tales of African evening hours " (Les Contes of veillées africaines ) in 1967 comprises approximately by his previous work a dozen volumes with a total of a thousand poems, and several anthologies with hundreds of stories. His literary oeuvre also includes some novels.

As a narrator, he is distinguished by his literary reports that are also inspired by personal experiences, from his imagination and from the traditions and realities of the black continent. His magical stories are permeated by the culture and history of all African countries.

As a poet, he enriched contemporary poetry by the richness of its language and its metaphors. Critics and some of the greatest poets of his time such as Mario Luzi and Leopold Sedar Senghor highlight the power of his verse and the richness of his imagination.

As a novelist Kamanda wearing his Africa and his dreams too far from his home in itself. His writings reveal a fighter against totalitarian powers, but also a helper of men and women who fight in silence for their rights and their survival and for their children. As a committed writer, he has himself always been seen as a "soul between the dreams and illusions, the joy and pain of the African World."
