Kambja Parish
Kambja ( German: Kamby ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian Tartu county with an area of 189.2 km ². It has 2 442 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2006). Kambja is 18 km from Tartu.
In addition to the main town Kambja ( 743 inhabitants ) belong to the rural community of the villages Aakaru, Ivaste, Kaatsi, Kammeri, Kavandu, Kodijärve, Kullaga, Kõrkküla, Lalli, Madise, Mäeküla, Oomiste, Paali, Palumäe, Pangodi, sweater, Pühi, Raanitsa, rebase, Reolasoo, Riiviku, Sipe, Sirvaku, Sulu, Suure- Kambja, Talvikese, Tatra, Vana- Kuuste, Virulase and Visnapuu.
Kambja was first mentioned in 1430. The place was named after the then owner of the manor, the Camby family named. Since 1686 one of the oldest Estonian peasant schools worked in Kambja, who had founded the People educator Andreas Virginius ( 1640-1701 ) there.
