Kameoka, Kyoto
Kameoka (Japanese亀 冈 市, -shi ) is a Japanese city in northern Kyoto Prefecture.
Geography
Kameoka is located west of Kyoto.
History
The city of Kameoka was founded on 1 January 1955. On 11 July 1951, the dam of the storage pond Heiwa -ike broke in the mountains above the present town. The flooding destroyed the village Shino -cho, which now belongs to Kameoka. Here, according to several sources 75-114 people died.
