Kamil Stoch

Kamil Stoch [ kamil stɔʜ ] ( born May 25, 1987 in Zakopane ) is a Polish ski jumper. At the World Championships in 2013, he won the world title on the large hill and won the bronze medal with the Polish team in the team competition. At the Olympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi, he secured both individual gold medals. He also won 2013/14 the overall World Cup.

Career

Making his first appearance in an international tournament Kamil Stoch had the 1999 Schülercup in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. In January 2003, he was first employed in the Continental Cup, the "second league" of the international ski jumping. He jumped even in winter 2003/ 04 and the beginning of winter 2004/05. In addition, he represented from 2003 to 2005 Poland at the Junior World Championships; In 2004 and 2005 he was supported by the Polish team Junior World Championship runner. In the Senior World Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf, he finished with the Polish team in sixth place.

On January 29, 2005 Kamil Stoch was first set up when jumping in his home town of Zakopane for a World Cup competition, but dropped out after the first round of. On February 11 of that year he reached then on the large hill in the Italian Pragelato the seventh rank and took his first World Cup points. Shortly thereafter, he belonged to the Polish squad for the Olympic Winter Games 2006. Doing so, he jumped on the normal hill on the 16th and on the large hill on the 26th place. In the team competition, he reached the 5th place with Stefan Hula, Robert Mateja and Adam Malysz.

On 3 October 2007 Kamil Stoch won the Summer Grand Prix competition in Oberhof with the two best jumps. Shortly thereafter, he finally won on December 26, 2007 in Zakopane, the Polish Championships on the large hill. 21 February 2009 Stoch was at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec fourth on the normal hill. On March 21, 2009, he also occupied with the Polish team to 2nd place in the World Cup in Slovenia Planica. On January 29, 2011, he celebrated then the third place in the team competition of Willingen.

At the Olympic Winter Games 2010 in Vancouver, Canada Kamil Stoch reached in jumping on the normal hill 27th place .. At the beginning of the 2010 summer season, he dominated the Continental and could after a second place finally finish the tournament as the overall winner to kick off with six first-place finishes. On 23 January 2011, he finally won on home turf also jumping on the large hill in Zakopane and celebrated his first World Cup victory.

In the Four Hills Tournament 2011/12 it reached with 8th place in the overall standings his best finish of the competition series. In the 2011/12 season he won the overall World Cup then the fifth and in the ski flying rating sixth place, thus reaching his best finish to date in each case.

In February 2013, he won his first world title at the World Championships in 2013 in the Italian Val di Fiemme. With his teammates Piotr Żyła, Dawid Kubacki and Maciej Kot he also won the bronze medal behind Austria and Germany in the team competition and thus the first Polish team medal in ski jumping at the World Cup.

Kamil Stoch are widespread Polish champion in both individual competitions of the wholesale and the normal hill and with the team of his club AZS Zakopane. On August 8, 2010, he married his girlfriend Ewa. After the 2012/2013 season, he was elected alongside Sabrina Windmüller in the FIS Athletes' Commission, in order to represent the interests of the ski jumper.

On February 9, he won at the Olympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi gold on the normal hill in front of Peter Prevc and Anders Bardal. Six days later, he also won gold in the large hill in front of the Japanese Noriaki Kasai and the Slovenians Peter Prevc.
