Kamlesh Patel, Baron Patel of Bradford

Kamlesh Kumar Patel, Baron Patel of Bradford, of Bradford in the County of West Yorkshire ( born September 28, 1960) is a native of India British politician since 2006 as a life peer member of the House of Lords and in particular with issues of drugs, health and social policy is concerned.

Life

Patel graduated and was later a professor at the University of Central Lancashire and director of the Centre for Ethnicity and Health ( Centre for Ethnicity and Health). He was also since 1990 working for the Advisory Board of the Home Office against drug abuse and there both from 1990 to 1996 a member of the Working Group on Criminal Justice as well as between 1993 and 1996 also a member of the Advisory Board. In addition, he was active between 1995 and 2008 in the Commission for the Law on Mental Health ( Mental Health Act Commission) and was initially a board member, then from 2001 to 2002 Vice - Chairman, and most recently from 2002 to 2008 chairman of the commission. In addition, he was from 1997 to 1998 Member of the Advisory Board of the Central Council for Education, Training and Social Work as well as between 2001 and 2008 and the Advisory Council of the Agency for the treatment of abuse of substances ( National Treatment Agency for Substance Misuse ) and at the same time Chairman of the Audit and risk Committee. He also belonged from 2003 to 2005 on the advisory board of the Health Care Commission ( Healthcare Commission ) and was also a British representative in the global working group of UNICEF for water, sanitation and hygiene.

Patel was raised by a Letters Patent dated 8 June 2006 as a life peer with the title Baron Patel of Bradford, of Bradford in the County of West Yorkshire in the peerage. Shortly afterwards, was on 10 July 2006 its introduction ( Introduction) as a member of the House of Lords.

In the following years he was active from 2007 to 2009 as a member and trustee of the Commission on Drug Policy, and between 2008 and 2010 as Chairman of the National Review Group for drug treatment in correctional facilities. In addition, since 2008 he is Associate Director of the Partnership Trust of the National Health Service ( NHS) in Leicestershire since 2008 and also advisor to municipalities for right and inclusion programs. Patel, of the Labour Party took until 2011 in the House and now a member of the group of non-party upper house members (Cross Bencher ) is, was, between October 2008 and June 2009 Parliamentary with the title of Lord in Waiting, HM Household CEO ( Whip ) of the Labour Group in the Lords after the election defeat of the Labour Party at the general election on 6 May 2010 opposition spokesman for communities and local government.

Since 2010, Baron Patel is chairman of the Communities, Rights and Inclusion Governance Committee and the Integrated Equality and Human Rights Committee in Leicestershire.
