Kamloops Blazers
The Kamloops Blazers are a professional Canadian ice hockey team from Kamloops, British Columbia, which currently plays in the junior Western Hockey League.
History
The franchise was founded in 1966 as the Estevan Bruins in Estevan, Saskatchewan, in 1971 the team moved to New Westminster, British Columbia, to where it played from now on as the New Westminster Bruins. In 1981, the franchise was relocated again, this time to Kamloops, where it first was named Junior Oilers. 1984, the team was finally renamed " Kamloops Blazers ". Since 1992, the team wears their home games at Riverside Coliseum, now known as Interior Savings Centre, from, previously the team in the Kamloops Memorial Arena had been on the ice.
Today's Blazers are the WHL franchise with the most Memorial Cup victories; was resettled as two New Westminster Bruins, 1977 and 1978, and three championships since the club to Kamloops ( 1992, 1994 and 1995). The record in the entire Canadian Hockey League is, however, still held by the Toronto Marlboros, who won seven times the title.
Overall, the franchise also won eleven times the 2007 Ed Chynoweth Cup renamed " President's Cup ", the championship of the Western Hockey League, which is also a record. Six times the team was doing under its current name Master of the WHL. 1995 carried the Blazers from the final round of the Memorial Cup, for which they would have been but in 1995 qualified as winners of the President's Cup anyway.
