Kamp-Bornhofen

Kamp- Bornhofen is a municipality in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Loreley. Kamp- Bornhofen is a nationally recognized tourist. Well-known buildings are the hostile brothers and the pilgrimage monastery Bornhofen.

Geography

Kamp- Bornhofen situated on the Rhine in the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.

History

Bornhofen the hamlet in 1138 Kamp was first 949, first mentioned. In the 11th century via suitable emperor Conrad II the " farm to combat " the canons of Limburg an der Lahn. The Marian pilgrimage monastery Bornhofen exists since the year 1224. During the chaos following the French Revolution of French troops occupied the place after the Congress of Vienna of Prussia was annexed. In 1936 the name change from camp to Kamp was completed. Since 1947 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate. 1948, the application for renaming in Kamp -Bornhofen the council. The village belonged to from 1972 to 2012 the municipality Braubach.

Mayor of Kamp- Bornhofen is Frank lime kiln. He followed Roger Lewentz, who held the office from 1994 to 2006.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the arms is: "Under a silver shield with a blue main inclined links stream right into gold a lowered blue anchor, left in a silver blue lily ". It was approved in 1949.

Culture and sights

Katzenelenbogen

1194 vineyards are witnessed as a fief of the Counts of Katzenelenbogen owned by the Konrad Wolf in Kamp. The image of the founder in 1435 created Kamp -Born Hofener wing altar which is in the Rheinische Landesmuseum Bonn today, is the only natural image of a Katzenelnbogen Count, Count Philip the elder of Katzenelenbogen.

Museums

Since 1968, there is a Flösser and Schiffer museum displaying exhibits of rafting and steam navigation. The museum is sponsored by the Association Founded in 1888, rafters and sailors club Kamp- Bornhofen.

Attractions

Liebenstein and Sterrenberg castle, called Hostile Brothers, are the right bank close to one another above Bornhofen. Sterrenberg, the more northerly of the two plants, already began in the 11th century. The younger Liebenstein was not until 1284-1290, may initially built as Vorwerk Sterrenberg.

The story goes that there have been fighting with their swords for the love of a woman two brothers. Heinrich Heine has the two brothers 'Two Brothers ' set in his poem a literary monument. The Franciscan Bornhofen with Marian Sanctuary is visited annually by about 200,000 pilgrims, including the participants of a procession of boats for which Guido Gorres a well-known pilgrimage song has sealed, the Caspar Aiblinger set to music. St. Mary's Church was first mentioned in 1224. Today, two-aisled pilgrimage church was built from about 1400 to 1435. UNUSUAL pieces of equipment are the Marie -portrait from the 15th century and built in 1765 marble high altar. Since 1890, the Franciscans conduct the monastery.
